Maharashtra Government Announces ₹5,000 Interim Relief for Farmers Before Diwali

Maharashtra's Fadnavis government has announced ₹5,000 in interim relief for all farmers amid drought-like conditions and crop damage. The state plans to transfer the money before Diwali using its own resources.

The Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra government has announced ₹5,000 in interim financial assistance for all farmers in the state amid drought-like conditions and crop damage. The government has said the amount will be transferred to farmers’ bank accounts before Diwali, providing immediate financial support during the festive season.

The assistance is intended to help farmers meet their expenses ahead of the festival as they continue to face financial difficulties caused by natural calamities and crop losses.

According to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the government has declared the entire affected region drought-hit in view of the drought-like conditions reported in several parts of Maharashtra and the damage sustained by crops. The interim assistance has been announced to ease the financial burden on farmers affected by these conditions.

The decision comes with Diwali approaching and concerns over the timely availability of financial assistance from the Centre. Chief Minister Fadnavis clarified that the state government did not expect to receive financial assistance from the Central government before the festival, given the limited time remaining.
